New England Wild Flower Society exhibit 1994 New England Flower Show
The theme of this display was "Wildflowers for the Home Garden." Its mission: to encourage gardeners to use native species and also preserve them by neither buying nor collecting plants from the wild. In a residential backyard setting, we created both a woodland/shade garden as shown here, and a meadow/sun garden. The photo shows the rustic steps in the shade garden's retaining wall with Maidenhair Fern at the top, and Foamflower in the crevices as though it had seeded itself.
